Title Variations--Area 1: Title and Responsibility
Compact disc IRSD-5592 by alternative band R.E.M. (I.R.S., c1985; 11 tracks). Title given on both spines of jewel box as "Reconstruction of the Fable." However, front cover states "Fables of the…" with "Reconstruction" upside down on back cover (followed by "of the" sideways in very small letters. Both the cover and CD employ CAPS for all lettering. One authoritative trade book source, Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Albums, 1955-1992 (Record Research, 1993. P. 616; under "R.E.M." entry) lists the title as "Fables of the Reconstruction."
Artist/Name/Main EntryVariations
"JFA" or "Jodie Fosters Army"? Cassette PLS-02, "Untitled"/"Mad Garden" (Placebo Records, P.O. Box 23316, Phoenix, AZ, c1985), an thology of two previously released LPs, lists full name on spine of case as well as both sides of the cassette. However, the two album covers pictured on front of cassette list only "JFA" in addition to respective album titles. The back cover of cassette cites "JFA" as composer of the majority of the songs listed for each album.
The record album, Valley of the Yakes (Placebo, c1983; 45 r.p.m.; 15 tracks), lists the acronym only on the front and back covers, the record label and the lyrics sheet insert.
None of the band's releases made the Billboard charts; therefore, the group is not listed in any of the Whitburn books Another tool, Ira A. Robbins' The New Trouser Press Record Guide (Revised Edition. Collier, 1989. P. 298; under "JFA" entry) states, "These Phoenix, Arizona skate-punks - whose name was originally an acronym for Jodie Foster's Army - are major figures on the Southwest hardcore scene."
