Also referred to as discussion groups or forums, newsgroups are e-mail messages categorized by topic where users post messages to a group. They contain hierarchical groups of related messages. Subtopics exist within each category, each of which is separated by a period in the name.

Deja News offers access to newsgroups www.dejanews.com Futurekids recommends the following options in browsing newsgroups from Deja News:

click the EDUCATION channel

click BROWSE GROUPS

select one of the groups

click the FOLDER icon to view the number of branches (subgroups)

select a READ ARTICLES icon to view the list of article titles posted within a topic

click an article title to view it

the PREVIOUS ARTICLE and NEXT ARTICLE options permit viewing prior and subsequent articles

the POST NEW option permits adding an article to the current newsgroup

the POST REPLY option enables an article to be added as a reply to the current article

the EMAIL REPLY option sends a message to the author privately, rather than posting it

the VIEW THREAD displays the subject, date and author fields of the thread containing the current article

the AUTOR PROFILE displays a list of the names of discussion groups of other postings for the e-mail address in the articles "From" field
