GUIDELINES FOR DONATING MATERIALS TO SCHOOL LIBRARIES AND CLASSROOMS

[Based on Boardman's Censorship. 1993]

__________ School appreciates your desire to support out instructional efforts by donating materials. We gratefully recognize a mutual concern for providing out students with quality, up-to-date, accurate resources that present differing points of view in a variety of media on many levels.

In order to avoid misunderstanding and confusion, please not that our school, as well as all other schools in the district, must follow the District's official Rules and Regulations.

Selection of Learning Resources

Books, subscriptions, or any other materials donated to school libraries will be gratefully accepted with the understanding that the items will be evaluated by a building level or district level library/media specialist against the same criteria as list in section ___ and should be accepted or rejected on the basis of those criteria. If a community group or individual wish to pre-purchase materials for our school collections, they should order those materials from our approved book list or have the materials previewed and evaluated by our librarian staff prior to purchase. Cash or other funds donated to school libraries should be given with the understanding that the funds will be used for items which meet the selection criteria and are approved by a building level or district librarian/media specialist. Donations of money for the purchase of library resources should be placed in the school's Library Book Account and/or the Instructional Materials Account.

A copy of the complete District Policy & Rules and Regulations is on file at each school site and at the district administration office.

Thank you again for your interest and support. We hope that we may continue to work together in many ways to better out schools and our student's learning environments.
