GBA 281- Extra Credit

(Voluntary, not mandatory)

I will award a Maximum of 5 points towards your final grade (NOT final exam and note that may mean I may only award 1 point, 2 points, or 3 points, etc.!) based on your well written topic selected from the alternatives below.  This could be the difference in a letter grade.  For your information, I don’t give many (actually very few) 5 points- but it can be done, while  2-3 points is fairly common.  I have given a zero when someone only turned in their name and just a paragraph!

The paper must be typewritten in good form and received by me NO LATER than May 1, 2002.  No paper should exceed six double spaced pages, 1 inch margins, 12 point type, excluding references, which must be cited as a bibliography and/or footnotes. You may email the paper to me or turn it in personally. In general, this paper can only help you, not hurt you.  I am giving it to you now so you can do it efficiently and without rush.

I will NOT reveal the points awarded until the final exam has been graded, so don’t ask!

Approved topics for Extra Credit (select only one):

1.                  An overview of the arguments, litigation and alleged anti-trust aspects of the Microsoft case, including the recent agreement reached by Justice and Microsoft. I would also like your opinion on the matter.

2.                   An overview of the impact of the new laws dealing with anti-terrorism and their impact on our freedoms, if any.  I would also like your opinion on the legislation.

3.                  An overview of existing (and newly enacted) laws dealing with the Internet particularly as they now apply to security and privacy of communications in business and other contexts, including terrorism. I would also like your opinion on the situation.
