| The Technology Program was established as a department in
1912 to prepare manual arts teachers. The department still offers a teaching option;
however, the curriculum is primarily oriented to providing educational foundations for
those people interested in employment in technical or professional positions in industry.
Modern technology is an essential part of the totality of the
human experience and as a discipline of study, is a complete
part of knowledge. Technology, science, and the humanities interface
to create today's body of formal knowledge. The Technology Program accepted the challenge of developing programs of
study related to the technological segments of our society.
Science pursues the reality that exists in the natural environment
while technology studies the realities generated by mankind.
Technology is concerned with the use of scientific principles
and technological methods to make things happen.Sam Houston
State University's Technology Program offers a broad and
diversified, four-year program of study. We prepare students
for a variety of careers. Technology students learn to draw
upon the principles of management, physical and technological
sciences, industry, liberal arts, and basic engineering for
the solution of problems involving industrial products, services,
materials and processes, and the supervision and management
of the personnel involved.
The Mission of the Technology Program is to provide an educational program
designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge, skills,
and experiences through which they may prepare themselves for
rewarding and meaningful roles in a technology society.
The Technology Program prepares students for careers in constructionmanagemen,
electronics, industrial management, and industrial education.
Technology students learn to draw upon the principles of management,
physical sciences, technology of industry, liberal arts and
basic engineering for the solution of problems involving industrial
products, services, materials and the supervision and management
of personnel.
The program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology with emphases
in the following areas:

Industrial Management
Technology Scholarships
Stephen Randel Scholarship: Awarded to an outstanding student participating
in the Brazos Valley Regional Technology Student Competition
held at Sam Houston State University each year during the month
of April.
Dale Benke Scholarship: Awarded to an outstanding Sam Houston student
majoring in the Technology program. This award is based on
student need, contribution to Sam Houston state University,
the Technology Program, and participation in technology-related
student clubs/organizations.
The Greater Houston Builders Association/National Association of Home
Builders: Awarded to an outstanding Construction Management
major with a grade point average of 2.7 per semester and continue
enrollment as a major in Construction Management with a minium
of 12 semester hours each semester.
