- The International Education Fee Scholarship, funded by the one dollar fee per semester, provides scholarships to supplement the cost of international studies. Scholarships will be awarded in three amounts: $2,000, $650 and $200.
- The scholarship award of $2,000 will be made to SHSU undergraduate/graduate students who study abroad for at least one semester and take courses approved by SHSU. Scholarship awards of $650 will be made (a) to SHSU undergraduate students enrolled in summer SHSU study abroad courses approved by SHSU, or (b) for study abroad programs organized by other institutions so long as those hours are transferable to SHSU for academic credit. Scholarships of $200 may be awarded for SHSU graduate students who enroll in SHSU summer study abroad courses/programs approved by SHSU.
- Applications must be submitted before the start of the student's study abroad course or program.
- The International Education Fee Scholarship will be awarded twice per year: once in the fall and once in the spring. Please note that the Committee reserves the right to make additional awards and to change policies as circumstances require.
- International Education Fee Scholarships are limited to full-time students enrolled in programs that will result in academic credits. Preference will be given to students applying for a study abroad program for at least one semester. International Education Fee Scholarship Guidelines
- Authority and Source of Funds:
The International Education Fee Scholarship award program is authorized under a law passed by the 72nd Legislature of the State of Texas. That law provides that students of SHSU may vote to levy an international education scholarship fee of $1.00 per semester to fund the scholarship. The funds collected, according to the legislative provisions, may be used only to assist students in study abroad programs. No funds are used to cover the costs of administrating the program.
- Definition:
For purposes of this program, study abroad consists of any academic work done outside of the United States of America which, in terms of quality and subject matter, meets degree and course requirements of Sam Houston State University.
- Awarding Authority:
International Programs and Activities Committee is chaired by the Director, Office of International Programs. Members include the President of SHSU Student Government Association, one representative from the Office of the Vice President of Student Life, one representative from the Office of the Vice President of Finance, and one faculty member from each college.

- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA if an undergraduate student or 3.5 GPA if a graduate student.
- Propose study that results in academic credit through either SHSU or through an institution whereby college credit hours are transferable to SHSU. To determine if a particular program is approved by your department for transfer to SHSU, please contact your academic adviser or department chair for your major.

If awarded an International Education Fee Scholarship, each student agrees to the following:
- To successfully complete the academic requirements of the course or program and to earn a passing grade for SHSU credit.
