| PROGRAM OVERVIEW |
The purpose of this trip is for Texas Students to gain a better understanding of the origins of the American criminal justice system. Thus the course functions as a comparative criminal justice course since the students are supposed to write about the similarities and differences of the US, English, and Scottish CJ systems, which all have their own anomalies. Furthermore they will understand how legal traditions evolve according to cultural, social and economic factors. By witnessing felony trials at the Old Baily, visiting busy prisons such as Pentionville Prison, and historical sites such as the London Tower and the Clink Prison, the students will be exposed to the full continuum of English crime and punishment from the Anglo-Saxon and Roman periods to the Victorian era and on the to the present. |
