2013 CHSS ANNUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE

CALL FOR POSTER PROPOSALS

The CHSS announces the Fourth Annual CHSS Research Conference. The conference will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 in the LSC Ballroom B from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Faculty and Graduate Students interested in participating should prepare a 3’X 4’ poster summarizing their research projects. In progress, already completed, and to be carried out projects, regardless of their current status, are welcome. Non-original submissions are also permitted. However, first-authors should limit their submissions to one single proposal as multiple submissions are not allowed. A 200 word proposal summarizing the content of the proposed poster should be submitted electronically by November 30, 2012 to Sandro Bonanno, Scholar in Residence CHSS at soc_aab@shsu.edu. Proposals should include: the theme of the project; its research question(s) and/or primary objective(s); the methodology or technique of investigation (when appropriate); and the expected short-term and long-term results and time frame (when appropriate).  Proposals will be reviewed and the posters included in the program will be announced by December 10, 2012. Two CHSS Research Conference Best Poster Awards will be presented at the 2013 Spring CHSS general faculty meeting. Posters will be divided into two general categories: Humanities (English, Foreign Languages, History and Philosophy) and Social Sciences (Communication Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology), with one award given to the best poster in each of these two categories. An additional award will be presented to the best poster by a graduate student. Presentations can and should be listed on individual FES reports and graduate students’ vitas. Details on the conference program will be made available after January 15. Within the conference, there will be the presentation of newly published peer-reviewed books (2010-12) authored by members of the CHSS. Books will be selected by the CHSS Research Council and authors will be invited to prepare short presentations. Wine and refreshments will be served during the conference.  For more information contact Sandro Bonanno at the above address or at 294-2455.
