TITLE: Mental Health Counselor Post grad (2 positions) HIRING SALARY: $2,394-3,285/Month
DEPT: Counseling Center CLOSING DATE: January 29, 2010  or when filled

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Masters Degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology or related field, preferably from an accredited program.  No post doctoral or post degree experience required.  Experience working in a college or university counseling center setting would be helpful. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.

NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide mental health counseling to the SHSU student population.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct individual, couple, and group counseling, perform psychological assessments, provide workshops and other outreach programs to the university community, consult with faculty, staff, parents and students regarding mental health issues, provide crisis intervention coverage, and other specific duties as needed. Supervise graduate students in psychology or counseling programs. This is advanced professional work which may require the development of new or improved techniques and procedures with some latitude for independent action and decision.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated commitment and competency to work in a university counseling center environment with a broad range of students, including first generation college students and those students coming from traditionally underserved populations.

This is a post doctoral or pre-LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) internship position, generally lasting one to two years, contingent upon funding.  The incumbent will receive appropriate supervision towards fulfillment of post degree hours needed for licensure.
