EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Five (5) years of experience in academic lab support, industrial biotechnology or related experience. Supervisory experience in laboratory setting would be helpful. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Oversees day-to-day technical and administrative operations of microbiology, molecular, genetic and forensic science laboratory. Provides scientific and technical support to laboratory staff and faculty as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides technical and preparatory support for several biological lab courses. Provide support and training to teaching assistants. Maintains department chemical stockroom. Responsible for extensive lab preparation. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Assists in development of future labs in immunology, medical microbiology, advanced genetics as well as other appropriate courses that are molecular and lab-based. Incumbent must have administrative and organizational competence; strong written and verbal communication skills; be motivated and goal oriented. Requires knowledge of standard laboratory principles and practices in order to oversee the scientific and technical work of the laboratory; leadership skills to manage student teaching assistants, graduate and undergraduate students; and knowledge of laboratory chemical hazards.
