EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a Natural Physical Science related field. One (1) year previous forensic science experience is required. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs entry-level forensic science examinations in a crime laboratory. Work involves conducting laboratory tests, analyses, classifications, comparisons, and identifications of evidence in controlled substances and/or toxicology sections of the laboratory; interpreting analytical and instrumental results; preparing reports and testifying in court.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives general supervision from the Forensic Science Laboratory Manager. Prepares casework and receives, catalogs, and files evidence. Conducts microscopic/visual examination or chemical analyses on evidence. Prepares reports on examinations and testifies in court when necessary. Participates in proficiency testing and the quality assurance program. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Experience with chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, computer literacy and good communication skills are necessary.
