EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a Natural/Physical Science related field. Two (2) years previous Forensic Science experience is required. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs routine (journey-level) forensic science work. Work involves conducting laboratory tests, analyses, classifications, comparisons, and identifications of evidence in controlled substances and/or toxicology sections of the laboratory; interpreting analytical and instrumental results; preparing report and testifying as an expert witness in court.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives minimum supervision from the Forensic Science Laboratory Manager. Trains other laboratory employees as assigned. Prepares casework and receives, catalogs, and files evidence. Conducts microscopic/visual examination or chemical analyses on evidence. Prepares reports on examinations and testifies in court when necessary. Participates in proficiency testing and the quality assurance program. Assists with the maintenance of laboratory facilities/equipment, technical troubleshooting and the development of new analytical procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Experience with forensic analysis, including but not limited to chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques is required. Computer literacy and good communication skills are necessary. Candidates that have testified and been qualified as scientific experts are given priority.
