EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. No experience required. Prefer degree in technical theater with minimum one year directly related experience. Or, a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To coordinate the technical aspects of the dance program and facilitate dance productions through supervision of student technical crews, performing or directing maintenance and inventory of equipment, and making recommendations for purchases of equipment and supplies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include but not necessarily limited to the following: Sets up theatrical equipment such as lighting and sound elements for dance production use. Instructs student and faculty users of tools, power tools, and lighting and sound equipment in basic operations and safety requirements. Supervises student crews in backstage operations, assigning tasks and monitoring work. Performs, directs, or contracts for preventive maintenance and a range of repairs. Directs transportation and installation of portable dance floor to performance spaces outside the dance building. Maintains inventory and recommends purchases of equipment, tools and supplies.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Requires a flexible work schedule to meet the varying performance schedules and maintenance needs. Requires knowledge of safety procedures for operation of equipment and tools. Ability to lead and train students in technical operations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. May require handling heavy objects, working in tight spaces, under low light levels, and at heights.
This is a part-time, nine month position (September through May). This position requires work at night during performances.
