TITLE: Counseling Psychologist HIRING SALARY: $3,316-4,419/Month
DEPT: Counseling Center CLOSING DATE: July 27, 2009  or when filled

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Master's Degree in Psychology required, doctoral degree preferred, and qualified to become licensed in the State of Texas as an L.P.C. or Psychologist.  Minimum of three (3) years of vocational and personal counseling experience in a University or clinical setting.  Post-graduate hours may substitute for experience.  Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.  Must attain State of Texas licensure within 18 months from date of hire.

NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide career and educational guidance, counseling, and psychological services to students of Sam Houston State University.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical areas of services are Personal, Couples, Vocational, and Group Counseling.  Typical duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:  consultation and outreach to the campus community including students, faculty, and staff; respond to day and night psychological crisis for students; conduct intake assessments; provide supervision to graduate student trainees; assist with services for students with disabilities; engage in on-going case management; make appropriate referrals to other agencies as necessary (e.g. M.D., Psychiatrist, etc.);  participate in staff meetings; serve on  University committees; engage in professional development activities.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

Strong skills in the areas of counseling, crisis intervention,, and outreach. Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective treatment plans.  Have an ability to work with a diverse student population.
