EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or related field. No experience required. Previous costume shop experience and knowledge of pattern drafting, cutting, draping and sewing would be helpful. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for the daily operations of the costume shop and ensures costumes are built for every production during the Theatre Department Season. Organize, train, and supervise crews, track inventory, identify needs, purchase material and supplies, and fulfill other demands as outlined by the costume designer.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the costume shop for the Theatre department. Maintains costume shop equipment and makes recommendations on necessary repairs. Drapes, drafts, patterns, constructs, and supervises the construction of costumes by student assistants and the costume crew. Maintains stock, tracks the inventory, orders materials and other supplies. Attends all production meetings, first dress rehearsals, and all weekly and other faculty and staff meetings as called. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Expert sewing skills and pattern drafting are needed. Organizational and personnel management skills are essential. The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills and the willingness to work flexible hours.
