EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor's degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution. Five (5) years relevant experience in directly related field. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Work involves overseeing activities associated with a local area network or wide area network. Oversees network design and installation, policy development, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software, and the evaluation of potential network enhancements. Perform highly complex network tasks. Duties require a high level of independent judgment and initiative.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources. Oversees various hardware and software resources to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency. Maintains the local area network or wide area network, cable and hardware installations, and inventories. Maintains the network's physical and logical structures, including all network connections. Maintains network support software. Identifies and secures enhancements to network facilities. Assists with the development of procedures for use at network facilities. Assists with training others. Perform other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Requires a demonstrated ability to establish congenial work relationships and to communicate effectively within department or workgroup, and throughout university with professional staff. May interpret and implement complex policies affecting the department level. Work requires considerable judgment and sound reasoning to solve department and division problems. Work requires attention to detail as errors may be potentially serious.
