Thank you for your interest in employment with Sam Houston State University! The Human Resources Department would like to wish you the best with your job search. You will be given every consideration for the position(s) for which you have applied without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or status as a veteran. If you have a disability that requires an accommodation and need assistance during the application or interview process, please notify the Human Resources Department at (936) 294-1070.

The Human Resources Department provides personnel support Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Building located at 1901 Avenue I, Suite 410. Before beginning the application process for employment opportunities with Sam Houston State University, you will need the following:

  • Your complete education, reference, and employment information
  • Your Driver’s license, social security card, and license/certification (if applicable)

Once you have gathered the information above, please be sure to complete the following documents and return them to the Human Resources Department:

  • The State of Texas Application for Employment (Word '97 • PDF ). Complete the application thoroughly, including signatures, since this will be used to determine if you are interviewed.  Resumes may be attached to the application in the place of the employment history pages if they provide the same work history information (e.g., dates of employment, salary, supervisor, etc.) Only applicants that meet the minimum education and experience requirements of a position will be considered.
  • Applicant Questionnaire form. The Applicant Questionnaire should be used to show how you meet the stated minimum requirements; however, any qualifications stated on the questionnaire must also be clearly documented on the application.
  • In lieu of the “Applicant EEO Data Form”, Sam Houston State University accepts the “Applicant Statistical Data Sheet”.

*NEW* In order to receive notification of position status, please provide an e-mail address on your State of Texas Application for Employment and Applicant Questionnaire.

You will be contacted by the Human Resources Department if you are selected for an interview. Please do not contact the individual hiring departments.

Please note that some clerical positions require a typing test which can be administered by any Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Office. Attach a copy of the typing test results to your application.

We encourage you to check the status of each position as it is posted on our website. Your application will remain on file for two (2) years. If another position becomes available during the two-year period, a new Applicant Questionnaire would need to be submitted for each position.

Current SHSU staff employees need to complete the Staff Transfer Job Application Form to apply for a transfer to any of the positions posted below. A current resume or updated application should (but is not required) be attached to the Staff Transfer Job Application Form. Your updated employment information will be helpful to the hiring supervisor in giving the applicant all possible consideration during the evaluation process. Human Resources encourages the upward mobility of all staff employees.

Again, thank you for your interest in employment at Sam Houston State University!
