Assistant Professor - Tenure Track
Degree Requirements:
PhD in Music Theory preferred; applicant with DMA/PhD in Composition will be considered; Masters degree with significant professional experience may be considered; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Experience Requirements:
Experience teaching theory to music majors at the university undergraduate and graduate level highly desirable. Must have excellent communication skills as well as experience/potential for leadership in coordinating theory programs. Demonstrated success, experience, and interest in music technology, notation software, composing, and teaching composition preferred.
Environment:
Sam Houston State is located in historic Huntsville, one quarter of the way from Houston to Dallas, at the boundary between the Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 students and a faculty of 650.
Usual Duties:
Responsible for teaching and possibly coordinating basic to advanced and graduate courses in Music Theory, Composition, Analysis, Arranging and other related classes. May be asked to teach related courses in composition, arranging, etc., depending on background, experience, and training.
