Position:

Assistant Professor - Tenure Track

Degree Requirements:

M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Dance

Experience Requirements:

Professional performing experience, portfolio of professional choreographic activities, and/or university teaching experience preferred.

Environment:

Sam Houston State is located in historic Huntsville, one quarter of the way from Houston to Dallas, at the boundary between the Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 students and a faculty of 650.

Usual Duties:

Teach all levels of Contemporary Dance and Choreography. Teach courses from the following: Laban Movement Analysis, Somatics, Dance as Art, Dance History, Criticism and Analysis, Pedagogy. Ability to teach Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre Dance, World Dance Forms, Folk and Social, Dance Technology or other ares of performance and academic support is helpful.

Choreograph for dance concerts, assist with dance productions & advise students. Serve on graduate thesis, departmental, college and university committees.

Administrative duties as needed. Ability to manage Dance Website is helpful.

Salary:

$36,000 - 43,000 (9 month)
