Assistant Professor- Tenure Track

Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. in Horticulture or closely related field.

Experience Requirements:

Evidence of actual or potential success in teaching, research, and service is also expected. Excellent communication skills is also required. Must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Preference will be given to those with academic training and experience related to landscape design, floral design and plant materials. Teaching experience at the college level preferred, proven research competency and a strong service orientation desired.

Environment:

The Department of Agricultural and Industrial Science has 24 full and part- time faculty, approximately 1000 majors, and offers the Bachelor of Science degree in ten emphasis areas along with the Master of Science and MBA in Agribusiness degrees. THe Department maintains the Agriculture Center, Industrial Technology Center, Horticulture Center, Gibbs Ranch and the Agricultural Mechanization Center for research and laboratory instruction. Sam Houston State is located in historic Huntsville, one quarter of the way from Houston to Dallas, at the boundary between Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 and a faculty of 650.

Usual Duties:

Seventy- five percent teaching, twenty- five percent research appointment with service activities requires for promotion, merit pay increases and tenure. Primary teaching and research responsibilities will be discipline of Horticulture. Candidate should be capable of providing undergraduate and graduate instruction in horticulture, landscape design and related subjects. Research in are of specialization is required along with an expectation to provide service to professional, producer, industry and student groups.
