EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in related field with strength in research methodology and familiarity with current research issues in the related field of study. Master's degree preferred in a related field. Minimum of five (5) years experience as a peace officer, including three years managerial and/or supervisory experience required. The following certifications are necessary: TCLEOSE Instructor or (equivalent), Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Practitioner, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), and Commissioned Peace Officer. Preferred: Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor, and Commissioned Texas Peace Officer. Or a combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities.
NATURE & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Assists the Project Director in the development of the project. Assists in the investigations, analysis, and interpretation of the project=s research information and other related work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for working with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and appropriate partners to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Texas Highway Safety Plan (HSP). Coordinate the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP), and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (A-RIDE) program including training, while maintaining strong working relationships with TxDOT program managers and district traffic safety specialists, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), as well as other state and national partners. Promote and encourage involvement of the DRE and A-RIDE programs in law enforcement agencies. Manage and monitor training programs to insure quality of delivery and provide technical assistance to DREs and law enforcement agencies as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
Contacts with other University departments, State and Federal agencies, and outside vendors. Ability to work independently to implement program activities, as well as be a strong team member. Excellent program/project management skills, presentation, instructional, verbal/written communication, and evaluation skills. Working knowledge of computers/programs, knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Texas Transportation Code, and Code of Criminal Procedures. Traffic safety and impaired driving knowledge would be helpful.
This position requires travel.
