What is the purpose of Roommate Connection?
The goal of Roommate Connection is to help students who are looking for roommates find potential roommates based on their common interests and habits.
Who can participate in this program?
Roommate Connection is open to any student searching for a roommate to share a room in the residence halls or Bearkat Village Apartments. To live on-campus, all students must be admitted to the University, complete a housing application on-line, by mail, or in person at Residence Life, and submit a $200 deposit.
You complete your personal profile on SamWeb. Once you log in, look for Roommate Connection under the Residence Life tab on the left side of the SamWeb screen.
Begin by choosing a semester and year you wish to have your information stored. Please remember to answer all the questions. Your answers are stored in our database of profiles. You can change your answer at any time just by returning to the site. You can also deactivate your profile from the database in the same way.
Remember to add a contact phone number and email address for potential roommates to contact you.
There are two possible ways to match your profile against other participants:
An EXACT Match shows you profiles that have the exact same answers to all the questions.
A SIMILAR Match shows you profiles that have at least 6 of the same answers to the 11 questions.
What if no one matches me or I am not successful in making arrangements with my original matches?
Don’t give up! Remember, you are only being compared to the number of people who have also entered a profile. If you are one of the first to participate, there will not be many profiles stored. Return to the site and run the match process again. Your matches could change over time.
If you find someone you think would be a good match, you should contact that student using the email or phone number provided. You will then need to let the Residence Life Office know (via SamWeb) that you have found a potential roommate.
After you log into SamWeb, choose Roommate Request from the Residence Life drop down box on the left side of the page. From there, complete the information. This information is sent automatically to Residence Life and we will update your reservation. The request MUST BE MUTUAL, which means that each person must request each other.
After you find a roommate, we do ask that you return to Roommate Connection and deactivate your profile. Deactivating your profile will help other participants in their search.
What if I don’t request a roommate on my housing application?
If you do not request a roommate, Residence Life will make your assignment using criteria you indicated on your housing application and will assign a roommate with you randomly.
What happens to my profile after the semester?
After the semester is over, your profile will no longer be available to others who are looking for a roommate. If you want to continue looking for a roommate for a future semester, you will need to add your profile to a future semester.
