Assignments are made according to the original date of deposit. For example, if there is only one space left in Jackson-Shaver Hall, but two people have requested that hall, the assignments clerk looks at both applicants' deposits and places the person with the earliest deposit in the room. Every attempt is made to grant the applicant's request, but this is not always possible. If such a case arises, applicants are placed in any available room.
Yes, you may request a roommate. This request can be done on the housing application form. If you have already turned your housing application in, then you may put your request in writing (including both yours and your roommate's name and SamID number) and send it to the Residence Life Office. Every effort will be made to grant this request; however, it is important to remember that this request can only be granted if there is space available, and you and your roommate request each other.
Can I change my housing requests?
Yes, you may make changes by putting your changes in writing, and sending them to the Residence Life Office. Forms are available at the Residence Life Office.
If my roommate and I do not get along, can I change rooms?
There are no moves for the first week of the semester. Before moves can be made, we must verify the vacancies from people who fail to notify us they will not be needing housing. Once this is done, you may put in a request to your hall staff if you wish to move to a different room in the same building or to another building all together.
How will I know my housing request will be honored?
The Residence Life staff will notify you if your request can or cannot be honored. New applicants will receive verification of their building assignment for the Fall semester around June 1, and weekly thereafter for students who apply after June 1. New applicants will receive verification of the building assignments for the Spring semster by December 15.
When will I know who my roommate is?
Roommate assignment letters for the Fall semester will be sent by the first week of August. Roommate assignments for the Spring semester will be sent by December 15, and weekly thereafter. The letter will have the roommate's name, address, and phone number.
