Meningitis Shot 10 Day Waiting Period

To ensure the safety of all our on-campus students, all students must wait 10 days after they receive their meningitis shot before moving into the residence halls (as stated in the Meningitis Information sent to all incoming students). Because we will hold beds to accommodate this waiting period, we cannot adjust rent for the semester.
Upperclassmen Housing Applications- Waiting List Only (04/28/2010)
The Department of Residence Life is no longer taking housing applications for upperclassmen students. Students wishing to be placed on a waiting list should contact our office at (936)294-1812.
Bacterial Meningitis Vaccinations for Students Living On-Campus

Beginning on January 1, 2010, Texas House Bill 4189 requires that incoming students who live on-campus must provide either evidence of vaccination against bacterial meningitis or a signed (notarized) affidavit declining the vaccination prior to living on-campus. Students will not be allowed to check into their housing assignment until the Department of Residence Life receives the SHSU Meningitis Vaccination Verification form and supporting documentation.

Secure your belongings
The Residence Life Department has contracted with Safe Decisions for safe rentals. Below is a list of buildings where safes are installed: Sam Houston Village, Jackson Shaver Hall, King Hall, White Hall, Baldwin, Crawford , Creager and Mallon houses. Safe rental is included in room rate. No additional fee is required in order to activate in-room safes. http://www.safedec.com/universities/

New Students
To assist in the transition from life at home to life on the SHSU campus, all "beginning" first year students are required to live in university residence halls and participate in a meal plan during their first year (normally includes Fall and Spring semesters).
A "beginning" first year student is defined as a student who has graduated from high school the previous year to attending Sam Houston State University. For example, if you graduate from high school between September 2009 - June 2010, you are required to live on-campus Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.
Students may request an exception to this policy by completing a Request for Waiver of the First Year Required Housing and Meal Plan Policy and submitting the proper documentation.
Housing Assignments
Assignments are made according to your original date of deposit and housing choices that you selected on your housing application. Every attempt is made to place you in one of your housing choices, but space is limited in each building.
Roommate Requests
You are encouraged to request a roommate. This request is made on the housing application. Students may use SHSU's Roommate Connection service to find potential roommates based on common interests and habits.
