FACULTY MODERATOR GUIDELINES:
The primary purpose of the Undergraduate Research Symposium is to provide a forum where undergraduate students may present their research to others in a professional environment. Audience members are expected to support the goals of the symposium by being congenial, positive, and supportive of all presenters and by following the general expecations of the conference.
Please refer to this for for general information about the conference and audience member expectations.
Since we cannot always match faculty with sessions that are directly related to their fields of specialization, the evaluations primarily focus on the presentations themselves rather than on content. The feedback given by faculty should be constructive (but given kindly and informally). Of course faculty are invited to speak to the content of presentations, if they wish. Moderator forms should be given to presenters after their sessions are over (or, in the case of poster presentations, after viewing the presentation). While moderators may ask questions during the question-and-answer period after presentations, they should not critique the students at that time.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. Moderating Session(s)
You will receive an e-mail shortly before the conference with details on the session(s) you will be moderating.
2. Registration:
You will be notified by e-mail about the registration time and location. A light breakfast will be served. Present your SAM ID to receive the symposium program, door prize ticket, and gift bag at check-in. You will also receive your moderator forms at that time.
3. Session Format:
Each session will have a presider, a student who will introduce each speaker and keep track of time. S/he will also announce that the question-and-answer session will be held at the end of the session, after everyone has presented. Moderators may ask questions during the question-and-answer session of course.
