Community

Sam Houston State University sponsors a program that caters to those highly motivated and academically talented. The Honors Program provides these achievement-oriented individuals with some financial support, an opportunity to interact with other similarly motivated students, special course offerings leading to an unusually broad educational experience, limited enrollment classes, closer contact with the faculty, the opportunity to participate in advanced registration, and access to distinctively designed facilities.

The Honors Program is designed to attract and retain highly competent and motivated students. Based on the active involvement of highly select faculty, the program seeks to create an intellectual and social climate that encourages students to develop their potential both in and out of the classroom. To this end, the program creates a community of scholars, wherein both students and professors interact and challenge each other in developing their abilities. Specifically, the program provides personalized instruction and mentorship opportunities in supporting the University’s overall mission of high academic standards and community service.
