Joseph M. Rowe joined the faculty at SHSU in 1965 after serving as an Air Force Historian for six years, assigned to Strategic Air Command [1959-1964] and Air Force Systems Command, Space Systems Division [1964-1965].  He teaches courses in U.S. Diplomatic History, the Early National Period of U.S. History, and World War II.  He served as associate editor of The Historical Dictionary of European Imperialism.  He also contributed essays/entries to The Historical Dictionary of the Spanish Empire, 1402-1975, The Historical Dictionary of the British Empire, The Historical Dictionary of the New Deal, The Historical Dictionary of the Vietnam War, The Historical Dictionary of the 1960s, and The Historical Dictionary of the 1970s.  With Thomas M. Camfield, he co-edited Exploring United States History, A Reader [two volumes, 2 editions].  He also has served as editorial consultant for several major history textbooks published by Random House, Houghton-Mifflin and Brandywine Press.
