SHSU SUMMER STUDY TOUR IN RUSSIA
June 2-June 28 2002
INCLUDES:
- Optional 3-Unit Mini-Session Course--History 365: An Orientation in Russian History to 1917. Taught by Professor Nicholas Pappas of Sam Houston State University.
- 3-Unit Summer Course in Russian Studies at the Herzen State Pedagogical University in Saint Petersburg---History 475: The Post-Soviet World: Origins and Development. Taught by faculty of the Herzen State Pedagogical University and Professor Nicholas Pappas of Sam Houston State University.
- Daily Tours of major historical, cultural and tourist sites in the St. Petersburg Area, including the Hermitage, St. Isaacs Cathedral, the Russian State Museum of Art, the Tavrichesky Palace, the Museum of Wax Persons, the Siege Museum, the Smolny Institute, the Museum of Political History of Russia, Sts. Peter and Paul Fortress, and the Dostoevsky Museum.
- Weekend Field trips to the Royal Village of Pushkin, the Medieval City of Novgorod, and Petrodvoretz Palace.
- A Five Day Field Trip to Moscow, including tours of the following historical cultural and tourist sites: Danilov Monastery, Red Square, the Kremlin, the Armory, Kolomenskoe, Novodevichny Convent, the Russian Duma (Parliament), the Andrei Rublev Museum, the Tretiakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, and the Oriental Museum.
- Opportunities to attend the cultural events such as the St. Petersburg State Philharmonic, the Bolshoi Ballet, and the Moscow Circus.
- Opportunities to experience the entertainment and social life of St. Petersburg's White Nights, since during the Month of June, it is daylight 24-hours a day.
