I
am a Professor of History at Sam
Houston State
University. I received
my college education at San Jose State
College (now University) and Stanford University.
I finished my Ph.D. in 1983 at Stanford. I have worked for the Hoover
Institution as a library specialist and have taught at the college and
university level at Menlo College, the University of Nevada--Reno, New Mexico
State University, Norwich University, and for the past nineteen years here at
Sam Houston State University. My areas or research interest are
geographically Southeastern Europe, Byzantium,
Russia, and the Middle East and the thematically military and
diplomatic history. I teach a number of courses in these fields, as well as
surveys in Ancient and World history.

I
also serve as Vice-President of the Athens Institute for Education and
Research (ATINER). I
am one of the organizers of the International Conference on Ancient and
Modern History, sponsored by the Athens Institute for Education and Research every
December. I am also one
of the organizers of the International Conference on Philosophy, held every
June. If any SHSU faculty
are interested in presenting and/or publishing their research in Greece,
