Apply for Admission
To apply, submit the following materials:
- Graduate Studies Application (submitted online through ApplyTexas)
- Application Fee
- An official transcript from your baccalaureate degree granting institution. (Students who have received a degree outside of the U.S. must also submit an official transcript translation report.)
- Additional documentation (i.e. admission test scores, writing samples, letters of recommendation, etc.) as required for your specific program. See our Degree Programs to determine if any additional documentation is required.
- Not all programs require an admissions test. Contact the graduate advisor for more information.
- Submit all additional documentation to the Office of Graduate Studies.
NOTE: The admission process differs for International and non-degree seeking students.
Application Deadlines
The Office of Graduate Studies has general application deadlines of August 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring, May 15 for Summer I, and June 15 for Summer II.
Please note that some programs have earlier application deadlines, and some programs have later deadlines. Students should contact the program's graduate advisor for program requirements.

Check your Application Status
Check your status online through the SamWeb Application Status. Enter your SamID and PIN and click Login. If you do not know your SamID or PIN, click Forgot PIN?. Enter your off-site e-mail address as listed on your graduate application. You will receive an e-mail at the address you listed with your SamID and instructions on how to set your PIN. If you do not have an off-site email address registered or require further assistance, contact the IT@Sam Service Desk at 936-294-1950.
Current SHSU students may also check their status online through My Sam. Log in using your SHSU Username and Password. Click on the Campus Resources tab, Banner Self Service folder, Student folder, and then Admissions.
