I was born and raised in the Indian state of Gujarat. After completing my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering I worked for various environmental engineering firms for few years and soon realized that my passion lies in research and teaching. And the pursuit for my passion brought me to Dallas where I received my Master’s degree in GIS. After completing my PhD in 2009 from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, I worked at Central Connecticut State University for a year and joined SAM.
My research interest lies in the Social Construction of GIS and I primarily focus on the process of spatial knowledge production by local government agencies. I have worked with Dane county officials in Wisconsin to explore the history of their GIS usage and its repercussions on their contemporary GIS knowledge production. I mainly use qualitative research methods in my work. I intend to turn my focus on local government agencies in Walker, Montgomery and Harris counties to explore their GIS Knowledge production and develop a comparative case study of the process.
