Gang Gong
Assistant Professor
Remote Sensing and GIS

I was born in northern China, but just like a bumper sticker I saw the other day said, I got to Texas as fast as I could. I came to Sam in 2005 after finishing my PhD at Boston University. I used to think my home was still in China, but now I more and more feel that here is where I call home.

Broadly trained as a human geographer, I have strong interests in transportation and population studies. I am also fascinated by the modern geospatial technologies including Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing. I am active in conducting research applying various geospatial techniques in my interested fields. Currently I am working on a number of research projects following this line: (1) fare and network structure of the US domestic air transportation market; (2) spatial impact on the measure of racial segregation; (3) interpolation of spatial incompatible data. In addition, I have a newly developed interest in applying remote sensing technique in urban crime pattern analysis.

I spend most of my non-academic time playing with my little ones, Kevin (4) and David (2). In my spare time (if there is still any), I am an ardent sports fan. Tennis, badminton, racquetball, volleyball, soccer, just name a few that I hope to have time to play. One more thing, I wish I could run a marathon once in my life.
