While teaching five years in Virginia at Norfolk State University, Shirley had an opportunity to work in a virtual international environment with School of Business faculty--individuals from Egypt, Iran, Taiwan, China, Japan, and Africa. This exposure and experience and the need to incorporate international studies in the business communications class combined with the ever increasing global perspectives helped to inspire Shirley to pursue international research. More recently, Dr. Tucker's research interests have also encompassed diversity issues in educational and work environments, gender discrimination issues, and organizational behavior and communication. |
| Dr. Tucker has written more than fifty peer-reviewed articles and proceedings, has received six College of Business research grants and three University research grants, and has directed several workshops in the office management and time management fields. She recently was awarded a Distinguished Research Award for "Women's Status in the US Workforce 2000+" by the Allied Academies International Organization, Nashville, Tennessee, 2002; also, she received State Collegiate Business Education Teacher of the Year for 1994 from the Texas Business Education Association. She is a member of numerous professional organizations and frequently attends conventions and workshops to keep up-to-date in her field. |
| Dr. Tucker lives in Huntsville and is the mother of two girls-Jodi and Casey Tucker. |
