
James F. Gaertner, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Sam Houston State University in 1965 and 1970, returned in August 2001 as the university's 12th president after a distinguished career in private industry and with other universities.
He earned his doctorate at Texas A&M University in 1977 and taught there from September 1973 to August 1976. He also completed the Harvard University Management Development Program in 1989.
His teaching fields have included managerial accounting, financial accounting, international accounting and budgeting, with specialized areas including business ethics and corporate governance.
