Sam Spotlight

James F. Gaertner, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Sam Houston State University in 1965 and 1970, returned in August 2001 as the university's 12th president after a distinguished career in private industry and with other universities.

He earned his doctorate at Texas A&M University in 1977 and taught there from September 1973 to August 1976. He also completed the Harvard University Management Development Program in 1989.

His teaching fields have included managerial accounting, financial accounting, international accounting and budgeting, with specialized areas including business ethics and corporate governance.

Tip #1: Visit our Campus to get a feeling about the community and overall school.

Tip #2: Send your students mail or email, even if it seems mundane, they will be glad to hear from you.

Tip #3: Obtain the Academic Calendar and the Student Services Calendar to be aware of school holidays, finals, and other school events.

Tip #4: Encourage your student to get involved with academic and social organizations.
