Academic Support Centers

The SHSU Reading Center is available to all students, faculty, and staff. The primary goal of the instructors is to empower all students with effective reading strategies and the confidence to excel in their classes. The SHSU Reading Center is staffed and equipped to assist students with their expository reading in a variety of learning environments.

The Sam Houston Writing Center helps SHSU students, staff, and faculty and community members. The goal is to help people become better writers and develop more confidence in their writing abilities. To this end, Writing Center tutors provide one-on-one and small group writing instruction. Also offered are one-session workshops on various topics relating to writing throughout the school year.

Accounting: Tutoring is available  in Smith-Hudson Bldg, Rm 307, Mon 2-4 pm; Tues, Wed, & Thur 2-5 pm.                                         

Agriculture: Check with your professor for tutoring.

Art: Check with your professor.

Biological Sciences: Check with your professor or teacher assistant.

Business Analysis:  Tutoring is available in Smith-Hudson Bldg, Rm 140,  Mon thru Fri  1-5 pm.

Chemistry: Check in the classrooms on the bulletin boards and through out the building for tutoring information.

Communications Check with your professor.

Computer Science: Students in CS 146 & 147 are held in AB1, Rm 212J, Mon thru Fri 1 -3pm. All other classes please contact your professors.

Criminal Justice – Sign up for tutoring by appointment in the CJ advising office Rm A214.

Economics: Tutoring is available in Smith-Hudson Bldg, Rm 140,  Mon thru Fri  1-5 pm.

English: By appointment only, call 936-294-1404.

Family and Consumer Science: Check with your professor.

Finance: Tutoring available for Finance 367, Mon thru Thur 2-4 pm, Rm 204 in the Smith-Hudson Bldg.
