EXPERIENCE MEXICO: SHSU PUEBLA FIELD SCHOOL: 2011

Safety Issues

1. Try to pay for small purchases with small bills. Avoid waving large sums of money about. It is also wise to avoid wearing expensive jewelry, in order to deter theft. AGAIN: simply do not bring jewelry that has monetary or sentimental value.

2. If you carry a purse, hold it next to you in crowded public places. Money bags that you hide under your clothing can be handy. Also fanny packs seem to work well.

3. Read carefully the Consular Information Sheet

4. Puebla is a relatively safe city, but don't put yourself at risk. Use your common sense.

5. Go around with your buddies and watch after each other, especially at night. Do not leave anyone stranded.

6. When we are in Mexico City, stay in small groups. DO NOT BOARD A TAXI OFF THE STREET IN MEXICO CITY. If for any reason, you become separated from the group while in Mexico City, walk to a hotel and ask the person at the front desk to call a taxi to take you to the bus station. Taxi might cost 100 pesos. Then buy bus ticket to Puebla, about 8 dollars.
