Welcome Message

James B. BexleyWelcome to the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking established in 1997 with a two-fold mission. First, its primary mission was to educate and prepare students to be bankers. The second phase of the mission was to provide educational programs for community bankers.

We believe the program speaks for itself. It is the only accredited degree program offering a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Banking and Financial Institutions. Banks, state, and federal regulatory agencies throughout the state of Texas quickly hire graduates of this program. Additionally, the program places approximately 40 interns in banks and regulatory agencies per semester. These interns not only get paid, but they also receive college credit of three semester hours not to exceed six semester hours total for internships. Touch the above button entitled “Degree in Banking” for detailed information about the program.

In the summer of 2005 the banking program began a unique cohort program offering a fully accredited Executive MBA Degree in Banking and Financial Institutions. Bankers and regulators who could not take the time to pursue a conventional MBA because of scheduling and time constraints can come to the University for two weeks each summer for two years and work two years on the Web with their instructors to earn the degree. The next two-week session is scheduled for August 4-17, 2013.. Touch the above button entitled “Executive MBA” for the exciting details.

All of our banking programs are taught in the new high-tech banking room pictured above this message, which has all of the latest teleconferencing equipment and other outstanding amenities.

Bankers all over the state have been quick to see the value of these unique programs and embrace and support them. Likewise, our two outstanding bankers trade associations in the state have been supportive of the programs.
