Emergency Loans

Tuition & Fees:

Loans for tuition & fees are available for each installment based on the availability of funding.  The amount of the loan is calculated at the time of application.  Schedule changes may require addition tuition & fees loans.

Housing:

Housing loans are available for the first and second installments only.  These loans are not available in the summer semesters.  Loan amounts are calculated at the time of application based on current housing charges.  These loans are available for on-campus housing assignments only.

Dining:

Dining loans are available for the first and second installments only.  These loans are not available in the summer semesters.  Loan amounts are calculated at the time of application based on current dining charges.  These loans are available for on-campus meal plans only.

Short-term Loans for Books:

Students may apply for a maximum of $350 for books.  These loans are not available in the summer semesters.  Only one short-term loan may be received per semester.  Loan funds will be disbursed to the student based on the refund preference selected through the Bearkat OneCard.  The funds may be used at any bookstore.  Note:  Short-term loans are disbursed pending the availability of funding.  Funds are not released to students until the first day of registration.

Charges Included in a Tuition & Fees Loan:

Tuition & Fees loans cover current charges only.  These loans apply only to tuition & fees, and do not cover items such as:

Charges Included in a Housing Loan:

Housing loans apply to current on-campus housing charges only.  These loans do not apply to any charges associated with late payments (i.e. late fees).

Charges Included in a Dining Loan:

Dining loans apply to current on-campus meal plan charges only.  These loans do not apply to any charges associated with late payments (i.e. late fees).

Charges Included in a Short-term Loan for Books:
These loans are disbursements made directly to the student for book purchases.

Tuition & Fees Loan Interest Charges:

Students will be charged a 5% per annum interest charge over the loan period.

Short-term Loan Interest Charges:

Students will be charged a 10% per annum interest charge over the loan period.

Housing & Dining Loan Interest Charges:

There is no interest for the Housing & Dining loans.

Tuition & Fees Loan Eligibility Requirements:

Tuition and Fees loans are open to all SHSU students who meet the following requirements:

Housing, Dining and Short-term Book loans are open to all SHSU students who have a COMPLETED Financial Aid file.

Who May Apply for Tuition & Fees Loans:

Tuition & Fees loans are open to all SHSU students who meet the eligibility requirements.  Students must register for classes before applying for the loan.

Who May Apply for Housing, Dining, & Book Loans:

These loans are available to all SHSU students who meet the eligibility requirements.  To apply for a Housing or Ding loan, a student must have current charges for on campus housing or meal plans.

 

 

 

Applying for an Emergency Loan

 

If you do not have the Sam Menu program,. download it at http://www.shsu.edu/faculty/menu.html and follow the Installation Instructions . It should display an icon.

 

 

How to Apply:

 

  1. Log into the Sam Menu
  2. Select the ETFL01M - LOAN APPLICATION PROGRAM under the GUI Programs section of Financial Aid .
  3. Enter the requested information into the General Loan Application
  4. Select "Continue"
  5. You will be prompted to read the Certification statement of the General Loan Application . If you have read these terms and agree to them, please select the box.
  6. Select "Continue"
  7. If approved for the loan, you will be automatically redirected to the section titled Current Loans Pending Signature .
  8. Select the emergency loan that you would like to sign.
  9. Select "Sign Promissory Note"
  10. Read the Promissory Note
  11. Three options will appear at the bottom of the Promissory Note (you must scroll all the way down the page):
  12. Upon signing the note, a box will appear that the note has been signed.  You will be provided with two options;
  13. Repeat to apply for, and to sign for, any additional emergency loans.
  14. Exit the program upon completion.

 

 

Printing a Signed Emergency Loan

Note:  Use this option to print a previously signed Promissory Note.

  1. Log into the Sam Menu
  2. Select the ETFL03RG - VIEW/PRINT PROM NOTE program under the GUI Programs section of Financial Aid.
  3. Enter your Sam ID
  4. Enter the Semester/Year that the Promissory Note is for.
  5. Select the signed Promissory Note that you would like to print.
  6. Select "Print Selected Note"  - You will have the option to view the Promissory Note before printing or sending the note directly to the printer.
  7. Repeat these steps to print any additional Promissory Note copies.
  8. Exit the program upon completion.
