A new EPA funded Environmental Technology Development and Commercialization Center, (ETDCC) (http://www.shsu.edu/~etdcc/), is soliciting technologies to be part of large-scale demonstrations in following areas of waste elimination and reduction:
- Recycling of tires and related composite materials into usable products such as reinforcement, fillers, additives, combustible gases and feedstock for industrial processes and products.
- Treatment processes for the destruction, removal or significant reduction from solid or liquid media of:
- organic cyanide compounds (acrylonitriles etc.) containing inorganic salts such as ammonium sulfate
- methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) and related compounds
- volatile or semi-volatile halogenated hydrocarbons

The goal is to validate commercially viable processes for elimination or substantial reduction of these types of waste with special emphasis on multiple-use technologies and recycling.

The primary focus of the ETDCC is to provide logistical support and unbiased assessments, which facilitate the commercialization of new and innovative environmental technologies. These demonstrations may be conducted at the ETDCC's permitted site in Texas City, Texas which has the necessary industrial infrastructure to support the assessment of potential technologies that may include mechanical, chemical and thermal processes.

On March 16, 1999, the ETDCC's Technical Review Council will start evaluating the tire recycling technologies, and the applicants with the most promising technologies will be invited to make presentations at a stakeholder meeting in late spring. The meeting participants will include representatives from municipal governments, state and federal agencies, petrochemical industries, financial organizations and private investors. The objective of the meeting will be to formulate the demonstration plans to address the funding, regulatory and commercialization questions.
Interested parties should send sufficient details of their technology for evaluation to:
