"In hoc" or what?
I recently talked with Doug Carlson, Sigma Chi's Grand
Historian, and asked him if there was any preferred written closing for a
letter. You know, we use "In hoc" (which means "in this," which really makes
little sense when you think about it), "Fraternally," which is what all greeks
use, and other individual closings. Doug said that the Founders would sign
letters to each other "Yours in the Bonds of Sigma Chi." He added that there
is no "official" or "preferred" form, but he prefers "Your Brother." I like
that! (8/16/95)
