CHARLES ALLEN BURGE, SR.
April 13, 1936 - June 24, 1999

Charles Allen Burge, Sr. owner and president of Jackson Oil Company of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, died June 14, 1999 at Saint Lukes Hospital, San Antonio, Texas following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Bates-Cooper Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Sunday, June 27, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Jamie Duncan officiated the service. Dr. William Marvin Watson of Dallas, Texas gave the eulogy. Masonic Rites followed at the gravesite in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Burge, the son of Julius and Elsie Burge, was born on April 13, 1936 in Alvin, Texas. After graduating from high school in Alvin, he served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was stationed in Okinawa. Mr. Burge later earned a BBA at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He was a charter member of the Sigma Chi fraternity while attending college there.

He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge, Temple Lodge #70, Scottish Rite, Hella Temple, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Past Director of the Point State Bank; past District Director of the Texas Petroleum and Convenience Store Association and a former owner of Hunt County Oil Company in Greenville, Texas.

Mr. Burge is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Jackson Burge; two sons, Charles A. Burge, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, and Dr. Billy Burge of San Antonio, Texas, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rachel Burge of San Antonio and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Etoil Jackson of Mt. Pleasant. There are four grandsons, Charles A. Burge, III (Chase) of Mt. Pleasant and David, Julius and Gabriel Burge of San Antonio. Mr. Burge is also survived by his brothers and their wives, John and Subeth Burge of Conroe, Texas; and James and Judy Burge of San Antonio, Texas. There are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Burge of Jackson, Mississippi, and his father-in-law, Billy Jackson.
