Level I FE Orientation Information

Welcome to the education program. We are pleased that you have decided to be a vital part of our future in education. Field-based learning experiences in the SHSU Educator Preparation Program are designed to provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to gain a variety of practical experiences with a diverse population of students. A complementary purpose of the field experiences is to provide additional instructional power in the classroom to help school students meet defined basic and higher order educational goals.

• State Guidelines
  Subchapter G. 1987 Program Requirements for Preparation of School Personnel for Initial Certificates and Endorsements states: "A planned sequence of 45 clock hours in field experiences shall be a prerequisite for admission to student teaching. Pre-student teaching field experiences shall include observing and working with children or youth in a school or school accredited by the Central Education Agency. At least one-half of the pre-student teaching experiences shall include observation and experiences at a level for which a student teaching assignment is anticipated".

We hope that within this website you are able to find the answers to all of your questions regarding your field experience observations at Sam Houston State University. However, if you still have questions that neither you nor your professor can answer, please contact the Field Experience Office (Teacher Education Center, Room 212) so that we can address your concerns.

The Role of the University Student

The university students are those individuals involved in field experiences to complete the state and university requirements of teacher preparation. Your responsibilities related directly to Level I Field Experience include the following:

1. Communicate problems to university professor or the Office of Field Experience.
2. Complete required field experience hours and assignments.
3. Provide verification of field experiences according to course procedure.

1. Please select the class-specific PowerPoint presentation which applies to you. Make sure to have the volume on your computer at an audible level.
2. It is highly recommended that you view the PowerPoint Presentation Orientation with audio for it contains elaboration on important topics.
