Office of Field Experience
SHSU Student Teachers, Supervisors, and Classroom Mentor Teachers:
Below is information and the proposed calendars that address the scheduling issues created by school closures due to Hurricane Ike. We believe the calendars will facilitate providing a full experience for the vast majority of our student teachers. Student teachers should read the information carefully and communicate with their university supervisors. (Posted Thursday pm, Sept 25)
Two Student Teaching calendars*:
#1) Original for students minimally affected by Ike (i.e. Bryan & College Station schools missed one day)
#2) Conclusion of both halves delayed by 7 days (accommodates most student teachers)
Both calendars allow 4 consecutive days (2 days and a weekend) to complete the TWS (if needed)
Two TWS Submission Days: Oct 13 and Oct 22*
(*Any alteration to calendars or TWS submission dates must be in the form of a written appeal by student teacher or supervisor, supported and forwarded by the supervisor to Dr. Brian Miller for approval.)
ALL Student Teachers are expected to attend the Job Fair on Oct 8, & be at SHSU on Oct 13 , 22, and Dec 16.

To Student Teachers,
Wed. September 24, 2008 (rev Thur. 8 am, Sept 25). Student teachers missing multiple days due to Hurricane Ike can expect a Revised Ike Calendar that will generally add seven working/week days in their placement, which will delay the last day of each placement (half). The Teacher Work Sample submission date will be extended appropriately for those students. Student teachers in districts minimally affected (i.e. 1 day) can follow the original Student Teaching Calendar. More specific information and calendars will be posted tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon or evening. Your patience is appreciated.

To SHSU Student Teachers, Supervisors, Mentors, and District Partners:
During these challenging times following Hurricane Ike, the presence of SHSU student teachers in the public schools is important, and student teachers should be professional, flexible, and continue to seek out and follow the schedule of their assigned campus.
Partnership school district schedules and the SHSU student teaching calendar will be assessed the week of Sept 22-26, with an update anticipated by the end of the week. To allow for a full experience, alterations to the student teaching calendar are being considered. Rather than initially contact SHSU directly, student teachers are asked to continue to access the student teaching calendar for information and updates. Flexibility and patience in this process will be appreciated. (Posted Sept. 22, 2008)
Student teachers it is recommended that you follow the district instruction concerning Hurricane Ike
ACS--EED 484 students will not be meeting due to closure of Sam Houston University.
Above all remember that you and your families safety comes first. Be safe.
