Kappa Delta Pi (KDP)

International Honor Society. Sponsors "Celebration of Teaching" to recruit high school students into the teaching profession. Sponsors spring community reading activity "Literacy Alive" which provides books and book readings to elementary children in Huntsville. As a community service project, KDP members reworked the atrium area at Scott Johnson Elementary School.
Sam Houston Association for the Education of Young Children (SHAEYC)

Provides continuing education to teachers of young children in the greater Huntsville area. Donates books to area childcare centers.
Sam Houston Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC)

Provides conference with national speakers for teachers and diagnosticians in the Huntsville and greater Houston areas. Collects books for book drives.
Texas State Teachers Association-Student Association (TSTA-SP)

Assists with the SHSU Halloween Carnival. Participates in the "Read Across America" book reading in public schools in honor of Dr. Seus's birthday. Sponsors the drive for prom dresses and dress clothes for needy high school students "Princess for the Day".
Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO)

Promotes the quality of bilingual and ESL education through the interchange of ideas and best practices. Participates in community events serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations including Encuentro, Celebration of Teaching, and Dia del Niño.
SHSU Student Chapter of the American Association of Christian Counselors

Formed to provide continuing education units (CEU) for counseling professionals in the community. Approval to offer CEU's is granted by the Texas Department of Health Services.
Beta Kappa Tau (Chi Sigma Iota)

Chi Sigma Iota is the local chapter of Beta Kappa Tau. Supplies children's books to young clients in the Jack Staggs Clinic. Sponsors "Future Fest", a career fair for our graduates. CEU (continuing education unit) provider for professionals in the community. Sponsors a shoe drive to collect and donate children's shoes to the SAAFE House. Chi Sigma Iota annually sponsors the Genevieve Brown Outstanding Counseling Student Scholarship in the amount of $500.00.
Eta Sigma Gamma

National Health Science Honorary Society. Participation requires a 3.0 GPA in Health and an overall 2.5 GPA. Focuses on research, service, and education. Volunteer hours are required.

Language, Literacy and Special Populations Outreach Programs/Community Service
LLSP Master's in Reading program
- Offers clinical reading assistance to local students
- Provides workshops for teachers
- Provides workshops for parents
- Develops school literacy programs
- Serves as district literacy coaching models
LLSP Undergraduate Programs
- Provides tutoring for struggling readers
- Provides tutoring for elementary school students in after-school programs
- Creates and monitors learning centers in elementary classrooms
- Assists adults who have disabilities with life skills (Best Buddy program)
- Monitors after-school TMCA students
- Provides tutoring for senior citizens in computer technology
- Offers child care for parents who would like to attend educational workshops
- Students volunteer at local non-profit organizations (i.e., Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Boys & Girls Club)
- Read to preschoolers at Gibbs Pre-K Center
- Provided each child with 2 books to take home. Books were available in English and Spanish

Master's and Doctoral students provide a wide range of counseling services to Huntsville and surrounding communities free of charge. Services provided are:- Individual counseling

- Substance abuse assessment
- Assessment testing
