Sam
Houston State University is offering a 15 semester-hour certification
program in Academic Advising through the Department of Educational
Leadership and Counseling. This certification program is designed
for the beginner and experienced academic advisor, in both community
colleges and senior institutions. It is also designed for
individuals who have supervisory or leadership responsibilities
for academic advising.
The
purpose of the certification in Academic Advising is to provide
enhanced credentialing and training for academic advising professionals
that have specific relevance to the field of academic advising.
In addition, for individuals interested in pursuing certification
and a master’s degree can do so through the department’s
30-hour on-line degree in Instructional Leadership. For more

the links above. There is also the option of enrolling in a one
semester internship, designed especially for individuals who have
limited or no experience in academic advising.
The
certification program in Academic advising consists of five courses,
all of which are offered on-line. The courses are:
- Foundations of Academic Student
- The College Student
- Career Development
- Multicultural Issues
- Psychology of Learning

courses are offered at various times during the year. Please
