Undergraduate Certification
Steps for Successful Teacher Certification
- Obtain advisement to verify which certification exams are required for your academic program
- Attend the appropriate review sessions (if required)
- Take the Practice Exam (if required) and obtain test approval
- Create (or update) SBEC account to obtain TEA identification number
- Register for and pass the appropriate TExES exams
- Graduate and obtain your degree
- Apply for your Teacher Certification at State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
Certification Information
Approximately two (2) week after graduation you will be conferred and during the following four (4) weeks the certification officer will recommend you to SBEC, provided you have taken and passed all required TExES exams. You will receive an email from SBEC concerning your recommendation.
- Apply at: State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
- You will receive your Teaching Certificate by mail in approximately nine weeks
- School districts may confirm the approval of your certification on the SBEC website
