Transfer Students
Transfer Students interested in seeking a degree in education are encouraged to meet with one of the advisors in the Educator Preparation Services early in the SHSU admission process to discuss program requirements. While walk-ins are accepted, appointments are strongly recommended to ensure that you are seen in timely manner. Please contact us at 936-294-3384 to schedule an appointment.
- Be advised regularly.
- Seek advisement at your college to ensure that your plan matches the requirements at SHSU.
- Schedule an advising appointment with the College of Education advisor early in the semester prior to when you plan to begin coursework through SHSU. ( For example, if you are planning on attending SHSU in the Fall of 2010, you would want to be advised in early to mid-February of 2010.)
- Become familiar with the transfer equivalency guide for your college. Be sure to take courses that fit your goals.
- Select a program that fits your goals. Be sure the courses on the articulation agreements are courses that are needed for that particular program. Generally, core classes for the elementary degree programs are the same, but some do vary.
- To help eliminate problems when transferring, please make sure you:
- Have a transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Have met the THEA requirements.
- Refer to the elementary degree programs to select a program that fits you. Make sure that the classes on the articulation agreements are classes needed for the particular degree plan you choose.
- To avoid non-transferable courses, complete classes listed under the Academic Core section of the degree check sheets.
- When coming to be advised, please bring a copy of transcripts from all previous institutions to ensure accurate advising.
