Philosophy of Education:
There are two major goals of public school education. The first goal is to provide students with the tools needed to achieve academic success and excel in extra-curricular activities. The second goal is to promote students to become productive and responsible citizens. Therefore, schools should provide students with a vision of learning that is conducive to satisfying these goals. Since I believe that all students can learn, it is important to design and implement strategic plans that enhance teaching styles to meet the needs of the diverse learners of today's schools.
Philosophy of Leadership:
As a future Assistant Principal, I feel the Human Resource Model is most effective. It is important to enhance the success of all students through leadership and management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. It is important to develop a system of staff evaluation and development to further enhance the quality of the staff in a supportive environment. In addition, the Hersey-Blanchard model of situational leadership and the Reciprocal Influence theory, are two more styles that I attribute to the successful facilitative leader. These models allow for flexibility of leadership as determined by the situation. A new teacher may not require the same leadership role as the experienced and highly motivated teacher. Effective administrators are versatile in their philosophy of leadership and constantly model the ideal of integrity and ethical behavior for their staff and students.
Vision for Learners:
Every child deserves a well-rounded education. This encompasses not only an education in the classroom, but extracurricular activities, teamwork, the development of personalities, and the social aspect that a school can provide. To effectively provide this service to the student it is important to continue to enhance the quality of staff to increase student achievement and student activities.
Vision for Teachers:
Teachers are motivators, facilitators, a vast source of knowledge to their students, and have the highest impact on student achievement. Teachers have a lasting effect on the life of a child which is an awesome responsibility. Teachers should be positive and buy into the philosophy that ‘the child comes first" through relationship building. Teachers should have the time to plan and research the curriculum and instructional programs that address the different learning styles of students in order to further increase student achievement.
Vision for the Organization:
My vision for the school as an organization revolves around the four "C’s": climate, community, collaboration, and communication. The climate of the school should be a safe and positive environment. It is important to maintain the current facilities and to provide space to support the academic and extra-curricular programs of the school. The community should be directly involved in the school through parent organizations and volunteering so that they feel a sense of ownership and pride. There should be a constant collaboration between students, parents, teachers, business partnerships and administrators. Through this collaboration, a well articulated vision of learning should be developed and supported by the school and the community. Communication is the key to any successful organization. As a facilitative leader it is important to enhance student success by collaborative communication with not only the staff and students, but families, community members, and any other member of the school climate. By responding to the diverse needs of everyone involved with the school culture, student achievement is limitless.
Vision for Professional Growth:
Professional development for educators should be a continual process if we are to be considered life long learners. Adequate resources need to be acquired for teachers and staff to be provided with training and inservices to keep up with current trends. Since training should be relevant to the instructional process, the staff should be surveyed to determine their professional needs. Constructive feedback is one method of assessment which could be utilized to determine if growth has occurred.
Method of Vision Attainment:
I believe that I am a visionary that facilitates the growth of a vision by having involvement of all organizations related to the school culture so that there is ownership of the vision. It is also important to develop a school goal statement that helps achieve the vision. The vision should be a long term ideal with a goal statement that develops year to year. In achieving this vision, it is important to hire teachers that will enhance the success of the vision for increased student achievement.

Professional Development is an ongoing process in all aspects of education. As I aspire to become an assistant principal, I continue a strong pursuit of professional development in the areas of facilitative leadership, technology, curriculum development and alignment, equity and excellence for all learners, and effective communication. In addition, the sharing of this knowledge to promote increased staff and student achievement continues to enhance the facilitative leadership process. As I continue to maintain a position as an effective assistant principal, I aspire to be in a leadership position directly involved with the recruiting, hiring, and enhancement of quality staff in a particular school district.

Reflection Of Success Club
Success Club is an academic extended day program at Wells Middle School. Success Club is a Spring Independent School District grant-funded program that began in the fall of 1996. This club is available to all students who wish to participate. In addition, a snack is provided to all students who attend, teachers are paid to stay and assist students with their homework, TAAS objectives, and daily lessons, and transportation is provided to all students who need a ride home.
The goal of Success Club is to increase academic achievement and TAAS scores at Wells Middle School. Although this after-school club is open to all students, its primary function is to allow teachers to target students that are at-risk of failing, have been identified as needing TAAS tutorials to help master specific objectives, or simply need to make-up work due to absences. Success Club is one academic intervention that Wells Middle School provides to its students in order to help them achieve success despite academic, cultural, or economic barriers.
As an aspiring administrator interested in the success of all students, Assistant Principal Delic Loyde, offered me the opportunity to track attendance, run statistics, and provide data to track the impact that Success Club has had and is having on our students. In particular, I address the Course Passing Rate and change in TAAS scores. It has been very meaningful to me to see how my data has influenced the growth and development of this club to effectively meet the needs of our students.
Success Club continues to grow stronger every year. Recently, our school district was audited by John Sharp. In his final report, Sharp recognized Success Club as one of the best practices in Spring ISD. As I continue my career at Wells Middle School, I plan to stay actively involved with the development of this club and the monitoring of this academic intervention as it effects the success of our students.

Reflection of SALA
The Spring Academic Leadership Academy (SALA) was started in the fall of 1998. It was developed by Dr. John Folks, Superintendent of Schools, and his immediate staff in response to the John Sharp audit. The audit stated that Spring would immediately benefit from a leadership training academy that would prepare aspiring administrators for the transition from the classroom to the administrative position. SALA accepted applications from all staff members of Spring ISD who were aspiring to be administrators. Upon review, 30 people were selected to participate in this academy for the 1998-1999 school year.
The goal of SALA is to better prepare future administrators who are seeking advancement in any new or vacant administrative position in the District. The Sharp audit stated that Spring was going to have a large turn around in administrative position due to the fact that many current administrators are close to retirement. Each SALA meeting helps teachers understand all aspects of running a school as well as a school district. Each meeting is spent with guest lecturers from the school building perspective as well as the central office perspective with ample time for question and answer.
As an aspiring administrator, SALA has given me an opportunity to hear first-hand knowledge on the particulars of the school district. I have enjoyed the opportunity to listen to an array of staff members in SISD that I would not normally have the chance to observe and interview. In addition, the exchanging of ideas from fellow classmates allows me another opportunity to achieve professional growth.
Due to the overwhelming interest and success in the first year of SALA, this organization will continue to thrive in our district while under the leadership of Dr. Folks. I would recommend this program to anyone who would like to chose a career in mid-management and am very pleased to receive the insight from those who have already established themselves as effective administrators and leaders.
