Learner Centered Professional Development
When reflecting on my personal and professional goals, one in particular seems to
always remain a high priority - and that is exemplifying life-long learning. One of the
reasons I chose to become an educator was my love of learning. I am most comfortable
when I am being exposed to new and engaging activity. By applying this principle, I am
always enthusiastic about pursuing advancement in my current line of work. As a school
counselor, it is imperative to stay abreast of current trends in the counseling profession so
as to not be mired in outdated methods of dealing with adolescents.
The following certificate is one of many Continuing Education Credits in the field
of Counseling I have earned. Each year, I set a goal to obtain at least 6 hours of
continuing education credit so that I will always have the necessary skills to deal
effectively with teachers, children, administrators and the community in which I serve.
This particular course focused on the necessary skills of Conflict Resolution and
Mediation. In todayís often times violent society, it is important that I am adequately
prepared to circumvent any at risk behaviors in my school.
