Musical Theatre Program Auditions

Auditions for Fall 2008

To sign up for Musical Theatre Auditions, submit the musical theatre audition form below. Once the form has been received you will be assigned a slot for audition. If all slots are full, you will be called and notified. This page will be updated when a waiting list is created. If you are auditioning for the Musical Theatre program you will automatically be auditioning for a scholarship, you will not have to attend both auditions. Applicants do not have to already have applied for admission to Sam Houston State prior to auditioning but would be required to do so immediately if selected for a scholarship.

Audition Check-list

•All copied music must be copied front to back, hole punched and placed in a three ring binder. Please be sure all key signatures, top and bottom of pages, and chord charts are captured in your copies. No hand written music or songs containing just the vocal line.

•To ensure a successful audition, be mindful of the accompaniment to your songs. It may be that your accompanist is sight-reading. Avoid complex Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, Adam Guettel, etc.

•Mark your chosen cut clearly; where you will start and end, what you want as an introduction, etc.

•Provide a metronome marking and indicate tempo variations within the piece.

•Time will be given to go over your markings with the accompanist before you begin your piece but the more information you can provide in the accompaniment line, the better your audition will be.

•A prepared monologue, no more than one minute in length

•Dance attire
